# Dashboard-Sensei: Feature Wants & Needs

Purpose: Keep a living spec that anchors us to the macOS Sensei design goals and UX patterns.

## Vision & Style (Sensei Parity)
- macOS Space Gray glassmorphism, rounded modules, subtle gradients
- Left sidebar with clear sections & hardware subcategories
- System information header: Computer icon + grid layout (Model, Processor, Memory, Storage, Uptime / Version, Computer Name, Serial Number)
- Circular progress indicators with colored status dots (CPU-blue, Memory-red, Temperature-orange)
- 3x2 metrics grid: CPU Usage, Memory Usage, Temperature / Boot Time, Active Processes, Total Volumes
- Connected devices section with loading states and device discovery
- Top bar metrics: CPU, Memory, Storage quick glance

## Must-Haves (Based on Screenshot)
1) System Information Header
✅ Computer icon (🖥️) on left
✅ "Loading system information..." text
✅ Two-row grid layout:
   - Row 1: Model, Processor, Memory, Storage, Uptime
   - Row 2: Version, Computer Name, Serial Number
✅ Real Mac model detection and display

2) Circular Progress Cards
✅ CPU Usage with blue dot indicator and circular progress
✅ Memory Usage with red dot indicator and circular progress
✅ Temperature with orange dot indicator and circular progress
✅ Boot Time (simple text display)
✅ Active Processes (blue number display)
✅ Total Volumes (green number display)

3) Storage
- Real host volumes from /Volumes (names, sizes, usage)
- Per-volume bars with used/free numbers
- Exclude container pseudo mounts
- Fix Docker container limitations for accurate host disk data

4) Network & Devices
✅ Connected devices discovery and display
✅ Loading states: "Loading devices..." with "Scanning network..."
- Bytes/Packets, max link speed
- Enhanced device detection beyond ARP limitations

5) Files
- Root at /Volumes by default
- View modes: List, Grid, Columns, Gallery
- Previews: images (jpg/png/gif/webp/svg/heic/heif/tiff), video (mp4/mov/webm/mkv), audio (mp3/aac/wav/flac/m4a/ogg), pdf, text/md/json/yaml/csv/log
- Actions: Preview, Download
- Breadcrumb and back nav
- File type detection for CR3, DOCX, and other formats

6) Settings
✅ Refresh interval, theme, default path
✅ Persist in localStorage

## Nice-to-Haves
- Real CPU temperature monitoring (not estimated)
- GPU temperature and usage
- Process list (top consumers)
- Media thumbnails + caching for gallery
- Drag/drop uploads, rename, delete
- Spotlight-like search

## Implementation Status
✅ **COMPLETED:**
- Exact Sensei dashboard layout matching screenshot
- System information header with proper grid layout
- Circular progress indicators with colored status dots
- 3x2 metrics grid with all required cards
- Real-time data updates via API
- Connected devices discovery and display
- Navigation sidebar with proper sections
- Settings persistence and configuration

🔄 **IN PROGRESS:**
- Live reload development environment
- Docker container optimization for host system access

❌ **REMAINING:**
- Storage data accuracy (Docker container limitations)
- File browser enhancements (CR3, DOCX previews)
- Real CPU temperature monitoring
- Enhanced network statistics
- Thumbnail generation for gallery view

## Technical Implementation
- Backend: Flask app with /api/system, /api/devices, /api/files endpoints
- Frontend: Vanilla HTML/CSS/JS with circular SVG progress rings
- Docker: Live reload with volume mounts for development
- Authentication: Disabled for development, configurable for production

## Open Gaps (to track)
- Storage percentages show container filesystem instead of host volumes
- Need Docker volume mounts: /Volumes:/Volumes:ro for accurate disk data
- Columns & Gallery view modes need full macOS behavior
- No thumbnail generation for media files yet
- Device discovery limited in containerized environment

## Acceptance Criteria
✅ Dashboard matches Sensei layout vibe and information density exactly
✅ System information displays real Mac model, processor, memory data
✅ Circular progress indicators work with proper animations
✅ Connected devices show with proper loading states
- Files: opening jpg/cr3/mov/gif/docx/pdf works (preview for supported, download for others)
- View mode buttons switch layout instantly and persist
- Storage lists the actual external drives mounted under /Volumes with accurate usage
